In January 2024, Ontario launched a dedicated 10-person LTC Investigations Unit with powers to lay provincial charges for 11 offences under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act. The CARES inspection software received 350+ enhancements across five releases in 2024–25, making inspections more structured and enforceable. Between April 2023 and April 2024, direct care hours per resident rose by more than one hour per day — the provincial expectation for documentation keeps rising to match.
