How the result sheet is calculated

Each subject mark is first turned into a percentage of the full marks, so a 40-mark subject and a 100-mark subject are graded the same way. The percentage gives a letter grade and a grade point from the scale above. A student's GPA is the average of their subject grade points, rounded to two decimals. If a student gets F in any subject, the result is F with GPA 0.00, as on the public exam results, even if the other subjects are high. The merit position ranks students by GPA first and total marks second, so two students with GPA 5.00 are separated by their total.

Example: marks 78, 65, 90, 72 and 88 give grade points 4.00, 3.50, 5.00, 4.00 and 5.00. GPA = 21.50 ÷ 5 = 4.30, letter grade A, total 393.

Making a result sheet for a whole class

Write one student per line with the roll number, the name and then the marks in the same order as the subjects. If you keep marks in Excel or Google Sheets, select the roll, name and mark columns and paste them into the box: the tabs Excel adds work exactly like commas. The result sheet maker shows the class table with every subject's mark and grade, the total, the GPA, the letter grade and the position, plus a pass and fail count for the class. Print it on A4 landscape for the notice board, or save it as a PDF to send to parents.

Result sheets every exam, without retyping

A result sheet is easy once, but a school runs class tests, half-yearly and annual exams for every class, and the same names and subjects get typed again each time. Hazira Khata, a free Bangla app for schools, madrasas and coaching centres in Bangladesh, keeps the class list and subjects, so a teacher only enters the marks; it then prints result sheets, marksheets, admit cards and ID cards, and takes daily attendance as well. Use this result sheet maker for a quick one-off sheet, and the app when you want the whole year's results in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a result sheet for my class?

Type the subjects, then one line per student with roll, name and marks in the same order. Press Make result sheet to get totals, GPA, grade and merit position, then print or save it as a PDF.

How is GPA calculated on the result sheet?

Each mark becomes a grade point: 80 and above is 5.00 (A+), 70–79 is 4.00, 60–69 is 3.50, 50–59 is 3.00, 40–49 is 2.00, 33–39 is 1.00 and below 33 is 0. GPA is the average of the subject grade points.

What happens if a student fails one subject?

A grade of F in any subject makes the overall result F with GPA 0.00, the same rule used on public exam results in Bangladesh. The failed subject is underlined on the sheet.

How is the merit position decided?

Students are ranked by GPA first and by total marks second. Two students with the same GPA and the same total share the position. Failed students are listed without a position.

Can I paste marks from Excel?

Yes. Copy the roll, name and mark columns from Excel or Google Sheets and paste them into the box. Tabs and commas both work as separators.

What if a subject is out of 50 instead of 100?

Set the full marks to 50. Marks are turned into a percentage before grading, so 40 out of 50 is graded as 80% and gets A+.
