Bangladesh SSC Grading System 2026

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination is one of the most important public examinations in Bangladesh. The grading system is standardized across all education boards including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet, Barisal, Dinajpur, Jessore, Mymensingh, and the Madrasah board. Understanding how your marks convert to grade points is essential for academic planning.

SSC Grade Scale

The Bangladesh SSC grading scale assigns letter grades and grade points based on marks obtained out of 100 in each subject. A+ (80-100) earns 5.00, A (70-79) earns 4.00, A- (60-69) earns 3.50, B (50-59) earns 3.00, C (40-49) earns 2.00, D (33-39) earns 1.00, and F (0-32) earns 0.00. The overall GPA is the average of grade points across all subjects, with a maximum possible GPA of 5.00.

GPA Calculation Formula

GPA = Sum of all subject Grade Points / Total number of subjects

If any subject receives F grade (below 33 marks), the student fails regardless of other subject grades.

What GPA Do You Need?

For admission to HSC Science group, most top colleges require a minimum GPA of 4.50-5.00 in SSC. Commerce group typically requires 3.50-4.00, and Arts/Humanities requires 2.50-3.00. Government scholarship programs like the Education Board scholarship require a minimum GPA of 5.00 for the talent pool category and 3.50 for the general category.

Tips for Improving Your SSC GPA

Focus on subjects where you are closest to the next grade boundary. For example, if you have 78 in a subject (A grade, 4.00 GP), improving by just 2 marks to 80 jumps you to A+ (5.00 GP) — a full 1.00 point increase. This strategy of targeting grade boundaries is the most efficient way to maximize your overall GPA with minimal effort.

SSC 2026 Exam Updates

The SSC 2026 examinations follow the standard Bangladesh education board curriculum. Students appearing under the new curriculum should note that the grading system remains the same. The exam format may include both MCQ and written components depending on the subject, but the grade point conversion uses the same scale.
