Dice Roller
Roll virtual dice for games, decisions, or fun. Choose the number of dice and sides. Supports d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100. Uses cryptographic randomness.
Dice Types and Their Uses
The d6 is the standard 6-sided die used in most board games from Monopoly to Yahtzee. Tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder use a full set including d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. The d20 is the iconic die for attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws. The d100, also called a percentile die, handles percentage-based outcomes and random encounter tables. Each die type produces a uniform distribution where every face has an equal chance of landing.
How the Dice Roller Works
This tool uses cryptographic randomness via the Web Crypto API for fair, unbiased rolls. Unlike physical dice that can have manufacturing imperfections, cryptographic generation produces truly uniform results. Roll up to 100 dice at once with any standard die type. Add modifiers to the total for D&D ability checks, attack rolls, or damage calculations. Results show individual rolls, the sum, possible range, and expected average for your configuration.
Understanding Dice Notation
Tabletop RPG players use standard notation to describe rolls. The format is NdS+M where N is the number of dice, S is the number of sides, and M is an optional modifier. For example, 2d6+3 means rolling two 6-sided dice and adding 3 to the total. This tool supports all standard configurations and displays results in familiar notation, making it easy to verify rolls during gameplay sessions.
