ShowHow Letter Hive Works
Letter Hive presents you with seven letters arranged in a honeycomb pattern. One letter sits in the center — this is the required letter that must appear in every word you form. Your goal is to find as many valid English words as possible using these seven letters. Each letter can be used more than once in a single word, so a puzzle with the letter "S" in the center could yield words like "SASS" or "ASSESS." Words must be at least four letters long, and proper nouns, hyphenated words, and obscure terms are excluded.
Every puzzle includes at least one pangram — a word that uses all seven letters at least once. Pangrams are the crown jewels of each puzzle, earning you bonus points on top of the word length score. Finding all pangrams is a hallmark of a skilled player and helps you reach the highest ranks faster.
Scoring and Rank System
Scoring in Letter Hive rewards longer words. Four-letter words earn 1 point each. Any word with five or more letters earns points equal to its length — so a six-letter word earns 6 points. Pangrams receive a 7-point bonus on top of their length score, making them especially valuable. Your rank is determined by what percentage of the maximum possible score you have earned. The ranks progress through eight levels: Beginner, Good, Moving Up, Nice, Great, Amazing, Genius, and the coveted Queen Bee — which requires finding every single valid word in the puzzle.
Daily Puzzle vs Practice Mode
The daily puzzle changes every day at midnight and is the same for all players — perfect for comparing your progress with friends. Your daily progress is saved automatically, so you can close the tab and return later without losing your found words. Practice mode generates a random puzzle each time, giving you unlimited opportunities to sharpen your vocabulary. Practice mode stats are tracked separately so your daily streak stays clean.
Tips for Finding More Words
Start with common prefixes and suffixes — think "UN-", "RE-", "-ING", "-TION", "-NESS." Try every vowel-consonant combination systematically. Use the shuffle button to rearrange the outer letters — a fresh visual arrangement often helps you spot words you missed. Do not forget that letters can repeat, so words like "ASSESS" or "BANANA" are fair game if the letters are in your hive. If you are stuck, step away and come back later — your progress is saved.
