Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans 2028: Plan G covers everything except annual Part B deductible (~$240 projected). Plan N similar but with $20 copays for office visits + $50 ER + no Part B excess charges. Plan F covers Part B deductible too but closed to new enrollees since January 1, 2020 (MACRA legislation).
Plan G vs Plan N
Plan G: higher premium, fewer out-of-pocket charges, no copays. Plan N: lower premium ($30-$50 less/mo), $20 office + $50 ER copays. Math: Plan N wins if you have fewer office visits per year (under ~25-30). Plan G wins for chronic care patients.
Plan F Closed Post-2020
Plan F (covers Part B deductible) closed to anyone first eligible for Medicare on/after Jan 1, 2020. Existing enrollees grandfathered. Plan G replaced as flagship — only difference is Part B deductible.
Open Enrollment 6-Month Window
Best time to enroll in Medigap: 6-month window starting first month you have Part B + age 65. Guaranteed-issue, no medical underwriting. Miss this window = potential denial or pricing penalty if pre-existing conditions.
