How the Growth Tracker Works
This tool uses simplified CDC growth reference data to estimate your child's height and weight percentiles. A percentile indicates what percentage of children of the same age and gender are shorter or lighter. For example, the 75th percentile for height means your child is taller than approximately 75% of children their age. Percentiles between the 5th and 95th are generally considered within the normal range.
Growth Milestones
Birth to 1 year: Babies typically triple their birth weight and grow about 25 cm in length. Ages 1-3: Growth slows to about 7-12 cm per year in height. Ages 3-5: Steady growth of about 6-8 cm per year. Ages 6-12: Growth averages 5-7 cm per year. During puberty, growth accelerates significantly, with girls typically having their growth spurt between ages 10-14 and boys between ages 12-16.
When to Be Concerned
Most children grow at their own pace and do not need intervention. However, consult your pediatrician if your child's growth percentile suddenly changes dramatically (for example, dropping from the 50th to the 10th percentile), if your child's height or weight is consistently below the 3rd or above the 97th percentile, or if growth appears to have stalled for six months or more. Your doctor can assess whether the pattern is a normal variation or requires investigation.
Nutrition for Healthy Growth
A balanced diet supports optimal growth. Children need adequate protein for muscle development, calcium and vitamin D for bone growth, iron for energy and cognitive development, and a variety of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals. Avoid restricting a child's diet unless directed by a healthcare provider. Children have higher caloric needs relative to their size than adults, and appropriate weight gain is a sign of healthy development.
Tracking Growth Over Time
This tool saves measurements in your browser's local storage, so you can track your child's growth over time without creating an account. The growth chart shows height and weight trends across multiple measurements. Tracking trends is more meaningful than any single measurement. Consistent growth along a percentile curve, even if it is the 15th or the 85th, is generally a sign of healthy development.
