How Live Currency Conversion Works

This currency converter fetches real-time exchange rates from the fawazahmed0/currency-api, a free open-source rate database served via jsDelivr CDN. The API aggregates rates from multiple public sources and updates daily. Rates are cached in your browser for 15 minutes, so repeated conversions are instant. The tool auto-refreshes every 60 seconds when in Live Rate mode, keeping your conversion always current.

To convert: enter your amount, choose the source and target currencies, and the result appears instantly. The swap button reverses the pair in one click. Use the quick-pair buttons for the most common currency combinations. Last updated: March 2026.

Historical Exchange Rate Lookup

Switch to Historical Date mode to look up the exact exchange rate on any date back to January 2023. This is useful for reconciling past transactions, verifying invoices in foreign currencies, or tracking how rates have changed over time. Simply pick the date, click Look Up Rate, and the tool fetches the historical closing rate for that day.

Exchange rates fluctuate based on economic indicators, central bank policy decisions, inflation reports, and geopolitical events. The historical lookup lets you put any past rate in context. For example, the USD/EUR rate in early 2022 was near parity, while by late 2023 it had recovered to 1.08–1.10.

Understanding the 7-Day Trend Chart

The trend chart shows the exchange rate for each of the past 7 days as a bar chart. The tallest bar represents the highest rate in the period, and the shortest represents the lowest. Today's bar is highlighted. Below the chart, the tool shows whether the current rate is above or below the 7-day average — a simple signal for whether now is a better-than-average time to convert.

This is not investment advice. Exchange rates can move dramatically on news events, so use the 7-day trend as a general reference, not a trading signal.
