Salary Percentile Calculator

See where your pay sits among U.S. workers in your occupation. Pick an occupation, enter your annual salary, and the calculator places it against the official 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile wages published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The figures are the BLS May 2025 survey — real published data, not crowd-sourced or estimated numbers — and you can type in the percentiles for any other occupation or area.

A salary percentile calculator shows the share of workers who earn less than you. If your pay is at the 60th percentile for your occupation, about 60 in 100 people doing that job earn less and about 40 earn more. This tool uses the percentile wages the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes for each occupation.

Salary percentile calculator data: BLS wages by occupation

The table shows the annual wage at each published percentile from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey for May 2025, the latest release. The same numbers drive the calculator.

How the percentile is worked out

BLS publishes five points for each occupation, not every percentile. For a salary that falls between two points, the calculator estimates the position on a straight line between them. Example: for all occupations the median is $50,980 and the 75th percentile is $80,520. A salary of $65,000 is $14,020 above the median, which is 47.5% of the way to the 75th percentile, so the estimate is 50 + 25 × 0.475 = about the 62nd percentile. Below the 10th or above the 90th percentile no estimate is possible from published data, so the tool says only that.

How to look up another occupation or your own area

BLS covers about 830 occupations, and publishes the same five percentiles for every state and metropolitan area. Open the BLS OEWS data tables, find your occupation and area, copy the five annual percentile wages into the "Other occupation" fields and choose "Other" in the list. This is the better comparison if you work in a city where pay differs a lot from the national level.

What these wages include

OEWS wages are gross pay for employees: base rate, commissions, tips and production bonuses. They leave out overtime pay, year-end bonuses, stock and other equity, and the self-employed are not surveyed. If much of your pay is equity or bonus, compare base salary with base salary. A result below the median is a prompt to look closer at level, location and experience, not proof of being underpaid.
