Ireland PRSI Class S 2027 Calculator — Self-Employed 4.1%
Calculate your Ireland PRSI Class S contribution for 2027 — 4.1% on net trading profit above €5,000 minimum, with credit toward state pension and other benefits.
Class S Rate Rising
PRSI Class S rate increased from 4% to 4.1% from 1 October 2024, then to 4.2% from 1 October 2025, and 4.3% from 1 October 2026. Multiple increases scheduled to fund pension shortfall. For 2027 most of the year is at 4.3%.
Minimum Contribution €500
Even if your net profit is tiny, you must pay €500 minimum PRSI (or the 4.3% calculation, whichever is higher) once profit exceeds €5,000. Below €5,000 you can opt out — but you lose contribution credits toward state pension.
Contribution Counts for Pension
Class S contributions count toward state pension (contributory) eligibility — you need 520 paid contributions over your working life for full pension. Self-employed need to pay PRSI annually to keep counting toward that 520-week total.
Compared to Class A (Employees)
Employees pay 4.0% Class A (rising to 4.2%) + employer pays 11.05%. Self-employed pay only their own 4.3% — much cheaper, but you forfeit employer contribution AND lose Jobseeker's Benefit / certain other benefits available to employees.
