Bituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute) pays miluim compensation to reservists serving in the IDF reserve forces. The amount equals your regular daily wage, with a 2026 minimum of ₪217/day and a ceiling of about 5× the average daily wage. Source: Bituach Leumi (www.btl.gov.il).
Salaried vs Self-Employed
Salaried reservists continue to receive their full salary directly from their employer during reserve service. The employer is reimbursed by Bituach Leumi after submitting Form 502 with proof of service. The salary continues uninterrupted, and the employer cannot legally penalize a reservist for time served. Self-employed reservists apply directly via the Bituach Leumi website using their last three months of reported income (Form 102 to the Tax Authority) as the basis for their daily rate.
Special 2024-26 Top-Up Programs
Due to extended reserve callups since October 2023, the Knesset approved additional grants beyond standard miluim pay: (1) ₪3,500 family grant per month served above 25 days, (2) ₪7,000-15,000 hardship grant for self-employed losing income, (3) extended unemployment eligibility post-release. These are paid separately from the daily rate computed here. Check the Bituach Leumi miluim portal for updated entitlements.
How to Apply and Track
Use the Bituach Leumi personal account (havi) to track miluim payment status, dispute calculation, and download receipts. Disputes have a 12-month statute of limitations from service date. Most issues stem from incorrect Form 102 income data — verify your earnings figure at the IRS portal before applying. The miluim payment is tax-exempt under section 9(5) of the Income Tax Ordinance.
