The income ceiling and a worked example
Contributions are capped at a monthly income of KRW 6,590,000 from July 2026 to June 2027. At the 2026 employee rate of 4.75% that makes the maximum employee contribution KRW 313,025 a month. Worked example for 2027: on a monthly income of KRW 3,000,000 the total contribution is 10%, or KRW 300,000; an employee pays KRW 150,000 and the employer pays KRW 150,000. An individually insured member on the same income pays the full KRW 300,000. Someone earning KRW 8,000,000 in 2026 pays on the ceiling: 9.5% of KRW 6,590,000 is KRW 626,050 in total.
Who pays what
For workplace members the contribution is shared equally between employee and employer and withheld from pay. Individually insured members, including the self-employed, pay the whole rate themselves.
Which year the figures are from
