Wage Garnishment 25% Federal Calculator 2027
Calculate wage garnishment 2027 — federal CCPA limits 25% of disposable income OR amount above 30× minimum wage. Different rules for child support, taxes, student loans.
Federal CCPA Limits
Consumer debt: lesser of 25% disposable income OR amount above 30× federal min wage ($217.50/week). Cannot garnish under this floor regardless of debt size.
Child Support Higher Limits
Single child support order: 50% of disposable if supporting another spouse/child. 60% if not supporting another. 55%/65% if 12+ weeks in arrears. Federal law allows these higher caps.
IRS/Federal Tax Garnishment
IRS uses different formula. Leaves you with standard deduction + personal exemption per dependent (about $200/week single, more with dependents). Federal Student Loan: capped at 15% of disposable.
State Protections
Some states more protective: TX, NC, PA, SC don't allow consumer debt garnishment (except child support, tax, student loans). FL exempts head-of-household. NY caps 10% in some cases.
