Free AI Translator — 200+ Languages
Translate text between 200+ languages using AI that runs entirely in your browser. Dual engine: Chrome AI for instant results on supported pairs, or Universal AI (M2M100) for 200+ languages in any browser. Free, private, works offline.
How This Dual-Engine AI Translator Works
This translator combines two AI engines to give you the best translation experience in any browser:
Two AI Engines
- Chrome AI (instant): Uses Chrome's built-in Translator API and Language Detector API (Gemini Nano). No download needed, instant translations. Available in Chrome 138+ for ~12 language pairs.
- Universal AI (M2M100): Uses the Meta M2M100 model via Transformers.js. Supports 200+ language pairs. Works in all browsers. One-time model download (~200-400MB), then works offline.
The tool automatically selects the best engine. When Chrome AI supports the selected language pair, it uses Chrome's on-device Translator API for instant results. For all other pairs or non-Chrome browsers, it uses the M2M100 model which translates directly between languages without pivoting through English.
Auto-Detect Source Language
Select "Auto-Detect" as the source language, and the tool will identify the language of your input text. On Chrome 138+, this uses the Language Detector API powered by Gemini Nano for high-accuracy detection. On other browsers, it uses character-pattern analysis to identify scripts like Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic, and Devanagari, plus word-frequency analysis for European languages.
Use Cases for Private Translation
Confidential Business Documents
Translate contracts, proposals, and internal communications without sending sensitive text to Google Translate or other cloud services. Your business data stays on your device.
Personal Messages and Letters
Translate personal emails, love letters, or family correspondence without anyone else seeing the content. Complete privacy for your most intimate communications.
Travel and Offline Use
Download the model before traveling and use the translator offline — no roaming data or Wi-Fi needed. Translate menus, signs, directions, and conversations on the go.
Medical and Legal Text
When translating medical records, legal documents, or other sensitive materials, privacy is critical. This tool ensures that confidential content never reaches a third-party server.
Privacy Advantage Over Cloud Translators
Google Translate, DeepL, and other online translators send your text to remote servers for processing. Even if they claim not to store data, your text traverses the network and could be intercepted or logged. This tool eliminates that risk entirely — the AI model runs on your device, and your text never leaves your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the dual-engine translation work?
The tool uses two AI engines. On Chrome 138+, it uses Chrome's built-in Translator API (Gemini Nano) for instant, on-device translation of ~12 language pairs. For all other languages or browsers, it uses the M2M100 model via Transformers.js, which supports 200+ language pairs and runs entirely in your browser.
Is my text kept private during translation?
Yes. Both engines run entirely on your device. Your text is never sent to any external server. This makes the tool ideal for translating confidential documents, personal messages, and sensitive business communications.
How many languages are supported?
The M2M100 Universal AI engine supports direct translation between 200+ language pairs including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, and many more. Chrome AI supports ~12 languages with instant results.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Chrome AI works instantly with no download. The Universal AI engine requires a one-time model download (~200-400MB), after which all translations work without internet. The model is cached in your browser.
How does auto-detect work?
On Chrome 138+, the Language Detector API (Gemini Nano) identifies your source language with high accuracy. On other browsers, the tool uses character-pattern analysis to detect scripts (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, etc.) and word-frequency analysis for European languages.
How does this compare to Google Translate?
Google Translate sends your text to Google servers. This tool keeps everything on your device. Quality-wise, Google may be more accurate for rare language pairs, but this tool provides strong results for common languages with complete privacy.
Why is the Universal AI model download so large?
The M2M100 model supports 200+ language pairs in a single model. The model weights encode linguistic knowledge for all these languages. After the one-time download, it is cached and works offline forever.
