Bangla Typing Test
Check your Bangla typing speed in words per minute, with accuracy and errors. English test included. বাংলা টাইপিং স্পিড টেস্ট — বিজয়, অভ্র বা যেকোনো বাংলা কিবোর্ডেLast updated: October 2026.
How this Bangla typing test works
Pick Bangla or English, a time of 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes and a passage. The clock starts when you press the first key and the test ends when the time runs out. The word you are on is underlined, letters you typed correctly change colour, and wrong letters are marked. You can use backspace to correct a mistake. When the time ends you get a result card with net speed, gross speed, accuracy and the number of errors.
The test does not include a keyboard. It reads the Unicode Bangla that your own keyboard produces, so it works the same with Bijoy in Unicode mode, Avro phonetic, the National (Jatiya) layout, or Gboard and other phone keyboards. Practise on the layout you will use in the exam hall. If you see English letters appear while typing a Bangla passage, your keyboard is still set to English.
How Bangla and English typing speed are measured
| Figure | Bangla | English |
|---|---|---|
| Gross WPM | whole words typed ÷ minutes | (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes |
| Net WPM | gross − wrong words per minute | gross − uncorrected errors per minute |
| Accuracy | correct characters ÷ typed characters | |
| CPM | characters typed ÷ minutes | |
English speed uses the usual convention that five characters, spaces included, make one word. That convention does not suit Bangla. A Bangla word such as ক্রিকেট is seven Unicode characters, because every kar, hasant and joined letter is stored separately, and the number of keys you press for it depends on your layout. Dividing Bangla characters by five would give a figure that changes with the keyboard and the spelling. So for Bangla this page counts whole words, separated by spaces, and shows words per minute as the main figure. Characters per minute is shown beside it for reference.
An error is a mistake that is still in your text when the test ends. A mistake you corrected with backspace is not counted. In Bangla a word counts as wrong if any letter in it is wrong, missing or extra. A word is counted once you press space after it. Net speed can never go below zero.
Two spellings that look the same are treated as the same. The text is compared after Unicode NFC normalisation, so ো typed as one sign or as ে plus া is equal, and য়, ড়, ঢ় match in either of their two encodings. Zero-width joiners that some keyboards insert are ignored.
Typing tests for job exams
Many posts in Bangladesh, such as computer operator, office assistant, data entry operator and stenographer, include a practical typing test in both Bangla and English. Each circular states its own required speed for each language, and the marking rule can differ from one office to another. Read the circular for the post you are applying for, then practise both languages for the same length of time as the real test. This page does not list pass marks.
A few habits help more than long sessions. Type a passage slowly until you make no errors, then repeat it faster. Keep your eyes on the passage, not on the keys. Practise the conjuncts you find hard, for example ক্ষ, জ্ঞ, ঞ্চ, ষ্ট and reph, as separate drills. Take a 5 or 10 minute test at least once a day, because speed over one minute is always higher than speed over ten.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Bangla typing speed measured in this test?
By whole words. Gross speed is the number of Bangla words you typed divided by the minutes used. Net speed takes away the words that still contain a mistake. Characters per minute is shown as a second figure.
Which Bangla keyboard do I need?
Any keyboard that types Unicode Bangla: Bijoy in Unicode mode, Avro phonetic, the National layout, or Gboard and other phone keyboards. The page does not provide a keyboard, so switch your own keyboard to Bangla before you start.
Why not divide Bangla characters by five like English?
The five-characters-per-word rule was made for English. In Unicode Bangla every kar, hasant and joined letter is a separate character, so a character count depends on spelling and layout. Counting whole words gives a figure you can compare.
What is the difference between gross and net WPM?
Gross WPM is everything you typed. Net WPM subtracts the errors left in your text: uncorrected character errors per minute in English, and wrong words per minute in Bangla. Net speed is the figure that matters.
What typing speed do I need for a government job?
Each recruitment circular states its own required Bangla and English speed, and it differs by post and office. Check the circular for the post you are applying for. This page does not list pass marks.
Does backspace count as an error?
No. Only mistakes that remain in your text when the test ends are counted. If you go back and fix a letter, it is scored as correct.
Can I practise English typing here too?
Yes. Choose English at the top. English speed uses the standard rule of five characters per word, and the same time options and result card.
Does it work on a mobile phone?
Yes. Use your phone's Bangla keyboard. Turn off auto-correct and word suggestions if they change what you type, because the test scores the text exactly as it is entered.
Is my typing saved or sent anywhere?
No. The passage, the timer and the scoring all run in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
