Bijoy to Unicode & Unicode to Bijoy Converter
Convert Bijoy (SutonnyMJ) text to Unicode Bangla, or Unicode to Bijoy for Word and Photoshop. Your text never leaves this device. বিজয় থেকে ইউনিকোড ও ইউনিকোড থেকে বিজয় কনভার্টারLast updated: October 2026.
Bijoy text looks like English letters here (for example Avwg evsjvq). That is correct. It turns into Bangla only after you paste it and set the font to SutonnyMJ. The conversion runs in your browser: your text is not uploaded, and the tool keeps working without a connection once the page has loaded.
Bijoy to Unicode and Unicode to Bijoy: what the converter does
Bijoy and Unicode are two ways of storing Bangla text. Unicode gives every Bangla letter, kar and sign its own code in the range U+0980 to U+09FF, so the text reads as Bangla in any app with any Unicode Bangla font. Bijoy fonts such as SutonnyMJ work differently: they draw Bangla shapes on the codes of English letters and symbols. The stored text is really Avwg, and it only looks like আমি while the font is SutonnyMJ.
This page converts in both directions. Bijoy to Unicode is for text typed with the Bijoy keyboard that you want to post online, email, search or keep in a database. Unicode to Bijoy is for text typed with Avro, Gboard or any Unicode keyboard that has to go into a print layout, a press file or an office template built on SutonnyMJ.
| Unicode | Bijoy codes | What differs |
|---|---|---|
| আমি | Avwg | ি is typed before ম |
| কে | †K | ে is typed before ক |
| কো | †Kv | ো is split around ক |
| ধর্ম | ag© | reph is typed after ম |
| প্রকাশ | cÖKvk | ra-phala is one code |
| কিন্তু | wKš‘ | ন্তু is two codes |
| ক্ষমা | ¶gv | ক্ষ is one code |
| বাংলা | evsjv | same order in both |
Why converted text shows boxes or broken letters
Three things cause almost every complaint.
- Wrong font on Bijoy text. Bijoy output set in Arial, Calibri or a Unicode Bangla font shows English letters and symbols. Select the text and choose SutonnyMJ.
- Wrong font on Unicode text. Unicode Bangla set in SutonnyMJ shows boxes, because SutonnyMJ has no shapes at the Unicode Bangla codes. Use a Unicode font such as Kalpurush, SolaimanLipi, Nikosh or Noto Sans Bengali.
- Letters in the wrong order. In Bijoy the kars ি, ে and ৈ are typed before the consonant, ো and ৌ are typed in two halves around it, and reph is typed after the letter it sits on. Unicode stores all of these after the consonant, and reph before it. A converter that only swaps codes leaves the kar on the wrong letter. This tool moves them: wµ becomes ক্রি and KΩx becomes কর্ত্রী.
How to use Bijoy output in Word or Photoshop
Choose Unicode → Bijoy, paste your Bangla text and press Copy result. In Microsoft Word, paste, select the pasted text and set the font to SutonnyMJ. In Photoshop, Illustrator or CorelDRAW, create the text box, set its font to SutonnyMJ first, then paste. The Bijoy output only looks right in a Bijoy font. If it is still English letters, the font has not been applied to that text, or SutonnyMJ is not installed on the computer.
Keep English words, email addresses and web links in a separate font. SutonnyMJ has no English letters, so anything left in English turns into Bangla shapes. The tool counts the English letters it found and tells you. Bangla digits come out as the digit keys 0 to 9, which SutonnyMJ draws as Bangla numerals.
A few conjuncts (ল্ল, প্ল, ব্ল, গ্ল, শ্ল) use a code that browsers treat as an invisible soft hyphen. You will not see it in the result box, but it is copied with the text and shows as the la-phala in SutonnyMJ. Use the Copy button rather than retyping.
What is not supported
- Other font families. The table is the SutonnyMJ (Bijoy 2000) one. Fonts from other systems, for example Boishakhi, Bongshi or BornoSoft, use different codes and will come out wrong.
- Rare conjuncts. About 190 conjuncts are covered, plus reph, ya-phala and ra-phala on any of them. A conjunct outside the table is written with a visible hasant and listed under the result, not guessed.
- English mixed into Bijoy text. Going from Bijoy to Unicode, every English letter is read as a Bangla glyph, because the file itself does not say which words were English. Convert Bangla passages only.
- A few shared codes. Bijoy uses the codes of the dash, the curly quotes and symbols such as | \ ^ ~ & for Bangla shapes. Straight punctuation survives; these symbols may not.
- Files and formatting. This converts plain text. It does not open .doc or .pdf files and does not keep bold, tables or font sizes.
Converting Unicode to Bijoy and back returns the same text for everything in the table. One spelling detail: য়, ড় and ঢ় each have two equivalent Unicode spellings, and the result always uses the single-letter one.
The glyph table follows the open-source poriborton (OpenBangla) and bondhon (BanglaKit) projects, both MIT licensed. Related tools: Bangla typing test and Bangla date converter.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert Bijoy to Unicode?
Choose Bijoy to Unicode, paste the text you copied from the Bijoy document, and the Unicode Bangla appears in the second box. Copy it and paste it anywhere. Unicode text needs no special font.
How do I convert Unicode to Bijoy?
Choose Unicode to Bijoy, paste Bangla typed with Avro, Gboard or any Unicode keyboard, then press Copy result. Paste it into Word or Photoshop and set the font to SutonnyMJ.
Why does the Bijoy result look like English letters?
Bijoy fonts draw Bangla shapes on English letter codes, so the stored text is English letters and symbols. It shows as Bangla only when the font is SutonnyMJ or another Bijoy font with the same table.
Why do I see boxes after converting?
Boxes mean Unicode Bangla is set in a Bijoy font such as SutonnyMJ, which has no shapes at the Unicode Bangla codes. Change the font to a Unicode Bangla font such as Kalpurush, SolaimanLipi or Noto Sans Bengali.
Why were my kars on the wrong letter in other converters?
In Bijoy the kars i, e and oi are typed before the consonant and reph after it, while Unicode stores them the other way round. A converter has to reorder them. This one moves pre-base kars, joins the two halves of o-kar and ou-kar, and puts reph before its cluster.
Does it work with fonts other than SutonnyMJ?
It uses the SutonnyMJ (Bijoy 2000) code table. Bijoy fonts that share that table will work. Fonts from other systems such as Boishakhi, Bongshi or BornoSoft use different codes and are not supported.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is done by JavaScript in your browser. The text is not sent to a server, and the converter keeps working without an internet connection once the page has loaded.
Can it convert a Word or PDF file?
No. It converts plain text that you paste. Copy the text out of the document, convert it, and paste it back. Formatting such as bold, tables and font sizes is not kept.
